What types of accommodations are available at Albizia Tented Camp?

We offer two unique options:

Spacious En suite safari tents with private kitchens nearby, OR

Rustic dome tent glamping with rustic private bathrooms and a communal camp kitchen and firepit.

Are the safari tents en suite?

Yes, our luxury safari tents each feature a private en suite bathroom with a hot gas shower and flushing toilet.

Do the glamping dome tents have private bathrooms?

Yes, each glamping campsite has its own rustic private bathroom located just a few steps away from the tents.

Is bedding provided in both accommodation types?

Yes, all en suite tents include fresh linen, pillows and bedding, and the dome tents include fresh linen, pillows and sleeping bags — no need to bring your own.

What kitchen facilities are available?

Luxury tents have functional private kitchens just a short walk away, fully equipped with gas stove, fridge, utensils, and prep space.

Glamping campsites share a rustic communal kitchen area, also fully equipped, and ideal for social outdoor cooking.

Is there electricity at the camp?

The camp operates off-grid. lighting and charging points for phones and small devices are available in the luxury safari tents, and in the communal kitchen area for glamping.

Do the dome tents have plug points for charging?

Not inside the tents. Charging stations are provided in the shared kitchen or outdoor common areas.

Is there a firepit or braai area?

Yes! Every site has access to a shared firepit and braai area near the communal camp kitchen, perfect for evening cooking and campfire chats. The en suite tents have their own braai's, and are also welcome to use the communal space.

Camp Life & Experience

Can I bring my own food and drinks?

Absolutely. Both accommodation types are fully self-catering. Bring your own food, drinks, and preferred supplies.

Is there a shop or restaurant on-site?

No, we recommend stocking up on essentials in Hluhluwe town before your arrival. The camp is self-catering with no commercial outlets on-site. There is however a restaurant and small shop for essentials at the Zulu Croc center just down the road, and Delishh restaurant and farmstall just a little further on.

Is the camp child-friendly?

Yes, children are welcome! The glamping campsites are especially great for families with kids who love outdoor space and adventure.

Can groups or friends book together?

Definitely. The glamping sites can host up to 24 people or more on request, and both accommodation types are ideal for couples, friends, or small groups.

Is the camp fenced?

No, the Albizia camp itself is unfenced within a private game reserve sharing a river boundary with Phinda, and is also within a greater conservation area. Wildlife such as giraffe, zebra, nyala, warthog, and bushbabies are commonly seen in camp and around the tents.

Wildlife & Safety

Is it safe to stay here with wildlife nearby?

Yes, it’s safe. While wild animals such as Leopard and Hippo do move through the camp area, they generally avoid humans. Guests should however walk with care after dark and keep food sealed. Self guided walking is allowed on specified routes and guided walks are available into the greater conservancy area with the chance of encountering Hippo, crocodile and other game.

What wildlife might I see, or hear at night?

Common sightings include nyala, giraffe, impala, zebra, warthog, bushbaby and more, and with hyena, leopard and lion calls heard frequently at night, and a variety of nocturnal birds and insects.

Where is Albizia Tented Safari Camp located?

We're located just outside Hluhluwe, along the R22 Sodwana Bay Road, approximately 14 km from town. The Zulu Croc turnoff to the camp is clearly marked on the left-hand side when heading east.

Is the road suitable for all vehicles?

Yes and No, a standard car can reach the camp in normal weather conditions. High clearance is advised during rainy periods and for the two short softer sand sections, but 4x4 is generally not required.

What should I bring with me?

Food and drinks (for self-catering)

A torch or headlamp for walking at night

Warm clothes for evenings (it can get chilly)

What to Bring & Prepare

Are pets allowed at the camp?

Unfortunately, no pets are allowed due to the reserve’s wildlife and conservation policies.

Can I book multiple tents or campsites at once?

Yes — we can arrange group bookings for multiple tents or sites. Please contact us in advance to check availability.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes, a 50% deposit is required to confirm your booking, with the balance due at least 7 days before arrival, and 30 days before arrival in peak holiday periods. Bookings cancelled within these periods are subject to a non refundable deposit.

Is Albizia an eco-conscious camp?

Yes, we are proudly off-grid and solar-powered, with gas showers and environmentally respectful waste handling. We ask guests to help us minimize their impact while enjoying nature.

Eco-Friendly Values

Are there self guided walking trails and game driving permitted?

As the camp is unfenced with potentially dangerous wildlife, self guided walking is only permitted on specified trails, with guided walks available into the greater conservancy where Hippo, crocodile and other game may be encountered. There is no game driving allowed within the area. The camp is an immersive wildlife experience where you can enjoy the outdoors and wildlife right from you camp.
